Icenetwork: Should the minimum age for seniors be raised?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if just raising the age limit would do that. It might be one factor. It could mean that young skaters' bodies are no longer disposable, too. Training will have to change so that chances of long-term damage are reduced if they can't compete in the biggest competitions until they're 17. Then a year or two to get the PCS rise, and then have high tech, beautiful programmes. You know, really ideally.

If there was some way of making that happen while keeping the current age limit, the question wouldn't matter to me really. I just really hate this acceptance that this is just how things are. Nobody really thought men could jump quads at one point, either.

The problem that many fans of FS don't consider is the fact that this is an international sport with thousands of skaters (as well as coaches and specialists) all around the world with different ages and skill levels. Thus, there will never be a simple fix to any issue and every possible solution or change will take time (maybe years) to show results (good or bad). We as fans are always demanding this and that being fixed and want it to happen now but don't want to try things or take small steps toward the desired goal.

Is raising the minimum age a good thing? We won't know unless we try. We are not getting anywhere by staying still, and skipping the process trying to jump to the finish line is impossible, so it must be done one step at a time.

My issue with this is the problems people keep putting on skaters being young could and should have been fixed with the judges. In fact, most of the issues that people bring can go back to the judges.

ISU needs to fix his judging first.

And I would be fine with 16. But people asking for 17-18 are being delusional. 16 seems to be the standard in most sports, so it's not too far off.
