Yuzuru Hanyu gets mentioned in Skate Canada Finance Webinar. 😂
https://skatecanada.ca/2020-finance-webinar/

What they said about him at around 31.40 is this: “It should be noted that there was an overall improvement of revenue earned. About 700 thousand from each of the annual recurring events. 70 percent or 500 thousand is attributable to Skate Canada International which benefited from Yuzuru Hanyu competing at the event, resulting in an increase in rink board revenue as well as ticket sales”.

Hanyu with Tutberidze. I don't see him taking the risk.

Before the Sochi Olympics you worked with Yuzuru Hanyu, who has a halo of mystique about him, what did you think of him?

He came several times to Moscow, he didn't speak Russian, and spoke only poor English. But I always saw a complete absence of indifference in his eyes, he always skated up and asked with his glance "What was right and what was wrong?" He always wants to do more. You can do 200, 300 jumps, but then you stop caring. A human being gets tired of monotony. A will and desire is the most important thing for a skater.

Hanyu remains unique, we won't be getting another such skater soon. Not everyone is capable of loving figure skating the way he does. ISU thinks how to change rules, whether to raise age limit, about the artistic program - and it's his programs which make me cry with emotion and tenderness. Look at his face. While being ascetic, he can show many emotions even without moving his face. That's talent. If a person has a need of exhibiting not only their technical, but also their emotional, sensitive aspect, even a Japanese athlete can be an example of how a skater should skate for the audience watching them.

Are you saying"even' because you think emotionality isn't a feature in Japanese culture?

- Yes, we saw their behaviour in the coronavirus situation - they are obedient. If I start training a Japanese, I become a guru, a sensei for them - a person who is only going to benefit them. Not only in sport, but in production too, everywhere. I will never forget that when we were leaving Sochi, he rang us, and asked to visit them in the hotel. His whole team along with the head of the federation came out and silently and synchronously bowed to us. I've never been thanked in such a touching manner. The hotel staff were much more shocked than I was.

-Why did you stop collaborating?

He went over to Canada to Orser, and he has his own team there and their own principles. But I see him using our practices in his programs still.

-Last season when Orser didn't come with Hanyu to the GPF, there were talks in social networks whether he should go over to Tutberidze. Do you think they could work along? Shoma Uno did try, after all.

The Japanese are wise and cautious, they won't take reckless risks. Hanyu has a great coach and a great team. I think he has found his niche in that company. His mother goes everywhere with him and acts like his guardian angel. He isn't alone, he has many friends. And he has no reason to get to another coach, he even gets better with age and outdoes everyone. I think people fear him.

Found someone who translated Yuzu’s handwritten message on page 127 of the Ice Jewels season photobook to Chinese and I’ll try my best to translate to english with my limited abilities:

”During the 2019-2020 season, everyone supported me with all their strength, thank you very much!

Thanks to everyone’s support, I could welcome the end of the season without great pain.
To “Yuzuru Hanyu”, what exactly is “figure skating”? I previously had days when I questioned myself like this.

But, after revisiting all different kinds of programmes, I realized once again, such programmes are created because it is exactly those moments that create such programmes (T/N: not sure what exactly he means here, and I’m not sure how to word it nicely in English, but I personally think it means every different moment back in time creates each programme)

As for the 2020-2021 season, exactly what form it will take, I don’t know too to be honest.

But no matter what happens, I will carry feelings and emotions unique to each moment, and skate to the end with all my ability!

April 21, 2020

Yuzuru Hanyu”

Not exactly the best translation since it’s Japanese —> Chinese —> English but I tried my best to stick as closely as possible to the Chinese translation and again there are some parts I don’t exactly know how to word nicely... hope the meaning doesn’t get butchered too much with my bad translation skills haha

If anyone has a better translation/can do a better job at translating it will be good too!

It's a long interview. The part about Yuzu is as follows:

Q: If we talk about consistency, is Nathan Chen the leader in this now?

Maxim Kovtun: Chen is a great athlete, really the best in the world. He and Yuzuru Hanyu are together on the top.

Q: They are perhaps superior to everyone else, but on the issue of consistency it seems that even Hanyu is currently inferior to the American.

Maxim Kovtun: Maybe Hanyu is not so consistent, but every time he raises entire 15,000th arenas with his energy. There is no such other skater. His programs are always very interesting, and his technique is very unusual. Despite the fact that Yuzuru is very small, on the ice he looks wide and beautiful – this is a grandiose work.

I'm cross-posting this video from Team Canada here because Brian and Tracy speak about how they prepped for opening day in late May at TCC, Brian being the responsible one who makes sure safety protocols are followed strictly, Tracy being positive about the break and talking about stroking:heart: and how they were pleased with how well Zoom was working on the ice for their foreign skaters who are back at rinks abroad.  No foreign skaters were named, which made sense as this webinar was meant to be focused on the return of skating in the province.  They clearly were not taking any questions on specific foreign skaters, but I thought that snippet might cheer you.  An additional note is that the SO website will be updating tomorrow, so I will look to see if they have only altered things so that 10 people can be on the ice to reflect that change which starts on Saturday, or if additional policies have also been altered.

Translation from the page. Omitted his competitive story because we all know it by now :P

  Hide contents

Skaters live literally on the edge. And that is because after hurling onto the air or spinning like a top, blades of just about 4mm thick are their only grip against the ice.

Figure skating is a combination of agility, speed, strength, flexibility and balance. Judges review every element in a system that rewards the most complete athlete. The one who jumps, spins, glides, connects and interpets better.

[...A summary of his career]

Blessed with ideal physical traits, no one has pushed the limits of the sport as him. His extraordinary flexibility allows him to spin in a way that is almost impossible for the others and his absolute control and spatial coordination allows him to do quadruple jumps easily. After mastering the triple axel and quad toe&sal, he became the first skater to do a quad loop. As if that wasn't enough, he added the quad lutz. And after that, he began to do heart-stopping combos. Now he's planning the hardest so far, the quad axel. A jump so difficult that so far, it seems impossible.

Sorry for being off-current topic, but looks like Ice rink Sendai has been re-opened for the public, although the time for the public session is still shorter than before.

According to the OP, they put a notice for visitors which asks them:
-to avoid coming from other prefectures
-to avoid coming when they aren't feeling well
-to wear masks
They also set a disinfectant at the entrance and an acrylic plate at the reception to protect both their staff and visitors from droplets.
And, they have introduced a thermographic camera bought with the donation from Yuzu! :tumblr_inline_mto5i3wxFW1qid2nw:

According to the OP, there was a plate hung from the camera that said, "this thermographic camera was introduced by the donation from Yuzuru Hanyu senshu."

ETA:

BTW, I was enjoying the sparkly stars sparkling beyond everyone's posts...

BTW2, didn't Tolkien set strict rules on translating LOTR? I heard that was why the Japanese translation wasn't easy to understand. I read it after I grew up and for work and found it very hard to get in the story, but I think it might have been easier if I read it in my childhood because when you are a child, you can read books imagining everything even if you don't understand every single word.
