  • 2 weeks later...
Is there any big change or something interesting about singles with that communication 2089?

Does anyone have summery or something?

I try to summarize the changes for Singles rules changes (not Pairs and Ice Dance now but I might do it later if anyone is interested. There are not too many changes).

All changes in the new Communication are underlined so they can be easily found in the text.

I copy the changes, which are underlined:

1. Step sequence level 4 difficulty:

'Two different combinations of 3 difficult turns on different feet executed with a clear rhythm with the sequence. Only the first combination attempted on each foot can be counted.'

2. Marking +GOE:

-->Jump elements: bullet 2): 'clear, recognizable (creative, interesting, original for jump preceded by steps/movements of the Short Program) steps/free skating movements immediately preceding element'

3. GOE reductions for errors:

-->Jump elements: in the SP: 'Jump element not according to the requirements final GOE must be -3'

-->Spins: 'unbalanced number of revolutions in change foot spin -1'

4. Program Components:

'As a guideline the score 10 should not be awarded for any of the components in a program containing a fall or serious error'.

(My remark: a fall is obvious, but what does a 'serious' error mean? How will it be decided if an error was serious or not?)

5. Step Sequence pattern:

'It must be visible and identifiable and should be performed by using almost the full

ice surface (e.g. straight line, serpentine, circle, oval or similar shape)'

The following has been removed: either in it’s length from short barrier

to short barrier or twice in its width from long barrier to long barrier

6. SOV:

Spin with one change of foot and no change of position V column added (not sure why it was not regulated last season? Some please help me out).

so what are the implications of these changes?  (sorry, i'm not familiar with the technicalities of the isu rules/judging)

are these good or bad changes?  more potential for fairer judging or more potential for bias?

It makes things less clear, to be honest.

Take for example the following rule changes:

Quote

2. Marking +GOE:

-->Jump elements: bullet 2): 'clear, recognizable (creative, interesting, original for jump preceded by steps/movements of the Short Program) steps/free skating movements immediately preceding element'

Who exactly defines what accounts for creative, interesting, original steps/movements for the SP solo jump? At least back when it said 'difficult steps/skating movements' you had a defined list of what was considered difficult steps/transitions. This GOE bullet also seems to now be confused even further with GOE bullet 1) unexpected / creative / difficult entry.

Quote

3. GOE reductions for errors:

-->Jump elements: in the SP: 'Jump element not according to the requirements final GOE must be -3'

-->Spins: 'unbalanced number of revolutions in change foot spin -1'

The first one relates to the item above. Will a jump which judges consider not meeting the creative, interesting, original steps/free skating movements before SP solo jump count as 'Jump element not according to the requirements' and thus the final GOE must be -3? But then they changed the wording of what is needed for the SP solo jump requirements, so now we don't know if someone doing, say, some nice arms movements, automatically meets the criteria, since it's VAGUE AF.

At this point, I'm not sure if we'll be seeing less negative GOE on SP solo jumps or more.

Quote

4. Program Components:

'As a guideline the score 10 should not be awarded for any of the components in a program containing a fall or serious error'.

More vagueness. What is a serious error? Also, this will actually hit the veterans (Javi, Patrick, Yuzu) more than the youngsters, since they're the only ones currently getting 10s. If they no longer can get 10s in component scores because of a non-defined 'serious error' (not even in music interpretation!!!???), it may lower the difference in PCS between them and the 'kids' even further.

There's this lady, who has a great shot of going to the Olympics (thanks to Elizabet) if she can get the minimum TES. I find it funny she has a Japanese wikipedia page but no English one. Her TES at AWG was 26.95 + 39.65 which doesn't quite cut it but...we'll see, haha.

Elizabet's Mum wrote immediately after Worlds "Aiza, Elizabet got another Olympics berth as a present for you", and Aiza replied "Thanks, Auntie".

I really like the girl, and it seems she's doing her best to be able to get that minimum TES.

She really got into shape now comparing with last couple of years, and was at Mishin Camp in May.

That's her instagram btw https://www.instagram.com/aiza_imambek/
