ESSENTIALLY SPORTS

the fan's perspective

As for now, Yuzuru is recovering from his ankle injury and taking a much-needed rest. And while we miss out on his heroics, we more than make up for it in this throwback Thursday episode.

A coach in the making

In what is the perfect blast from the past, the 27-year-old Japanese sensation can be seen adorably teaching little figure skaters the key aspects of the sport. Dating back to 2017, the video shows Hanyu giving instructions to the kids, while the kids are looking at the Olympic champion in sheer admiration.

It appears the figure skating legend has all the qualities to be an excellent coach, and that comes as no surprise, given that he is the best figure skater in the world. Post-retirement, he can surely consider coaching as a professional career.

But from the gist that I read here, Yuzu doesn't want to be a coach? Any particular reason why?

I can't remember if Yuzu has ever said he doesn't want to be a coach, but there are multiple reasons for this:

1. This video is recorded a while back. At that stage, he might not considered about what he will do after retiring from competition because he still want to compete and is focusing on that.
2. Tsuzuki Sensei once suggest him to be a skating expert, where he can give consultation to multiple skaters about their jumps without having to be their coach. Being a coach meaning you'll have to pay attention to every aspect of your student's skating and being held down to one area (outside of competition).

3. If he becomes a coach, there will be at least 3 cameras following his every movements during competitions.

Here is also for the costumes

Why Satomi feels  stomachache on the competition day :rolleye0008:

Since the person who wears it is him (Yuzuru Hanyu), you know.

As an otherworldly being, his victory is intangible and beyond sport where symbolic medals cannot define his greatness as an athlete and a human being. It seems the Universe has a radically different plan for him. Through her trials and triumphs, Yuzu becomes a messenger of love, gratitude, kindness, perseverance, and hope to the world.

Incidentally, with the huge amount of love, respect and admiration that Yuzu showed at the Oly (despite not being on the podium), I hope he can rest assured that 'he is loved not for his medals/titles but for being true to himself (a man of principles), for his fascinating (and healing) performances, for simply being an inspirational person to others.

Now that he's back in Japan, I hope the postcards from Chinese fans and fans around the world will keep him busy and feel loved during this off-ice time of ankle rehab/treatment. Rest, heal well and stay safe, Yuzu! Let's remember 3.11 with Yuzu and the rest of Japan. Have a great weekend everyone!

:2thumbsup: you wrote perfectly about who Yuzu is and I don't see anything to add  :girlsigh: and also  :animated-smileys-character-075: for having described him so well = he is one  : snonegai:  and the fairies leaned over his cradle and made him this good / talented / generous / worthy man and here are other mottos of Mr Le Baron Pierre de Coubertin https://citation-celebre.leparisien.fr/auteur/pierre-de-coubertin

Shizuka's 3.11 thoughts today - google translate:

It has been 11 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake. Think about what you can do now and what you need. May the difficulties be overcome. May there be hope and healing. I strongly wish for peace in the world and peace of mind. If I could do something for someone somewhere ... Think positive.
