AHHH, I'm so happy with have official confirmation! (Still crossing all my fingers and toes that nothing happens to him!)

All I want is for him to have a safe competition, even if he's not completely clean (2020 Nationals was a miracle IMHO). I hope he is healthy and doesn't try to push for the 4A or even the 4flip if he's still not sure of it.

I'm still anxiously awaiting his decision with his SP. I really hope he debuts Rondo, it's perfect for him. I doubt he would recycle LMEY this year since it didn't get the scores it deserved. I honestly feel the judges really knock down Yuzu when he does rock programs, it's clear the judges are telling him to stick to piano music (and then Yuzu is the one who gets criticized for using it all the time :banginghead:

So pleased Yuzuru feels he is well enough to skate - I hope he enjoys Nationals, he always looks so happy when with his countrymen and women in competitions - he must miss socialising in his hermit life!!

Now I have to work till Weds, then lots of cleaning shopping cooking wrapping etc to do, I visited family yesterday as I have a feeling the UK will be going into some sort of lockdown very soon -  but my number 1 priority from Thurs will be watching the men's event ! No 2 will be watching the women's event! Number 3 will be MOI!

So excited to see Yuzuru skate - I laughed when I saw his programmes are To Be Determined on the fuji website - typical Yuzu! <3

So, it's officially confirmed. :smiley-happy093:

Once again, Yuzu is saving Christmas for me, like he did last year. Just like last year, it's been really dull and dark since the beginning of November, not just because of the weather, but also because of the pandemic, with lockdowns, cancelled Christmas markets, no meeting friends etc.

Watching Yuzu skate has been one of the few precious and most important things to bring light, joy, and happiness into my life, especially since the beginning of the pandemic. :tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw:

I just hope that Yuzu is happy and healthy, has a lot of fun, enjoys the competition, and delivers performances that he is satisfied with. :smiley-angelic001:

I don’t expect any squeaky clean skates but I’m sure if he is healthy enough, he will be spectacular and shine like the bright diamond he is.

I actually don't wish him to have a squeaky clean skates this time. I wish him to have a clean enough performance just to win the championship but leave the most perfect and squeaky clean version in the Olympics!!! (I really think he is heading to Olympics with his participation in JNat).

  ALL the fanyus: I have read all your writings and I am not dreaming = YUZU will be at his JNats  :loveshower: and it will be, for my part, a beautiful gift to see him again and even (as I read it) if not is not perfect, I would still be delighted  :peace2: and the TTC also confirms it  :knc_brian2:  :knc_tracy1: and certainly, as you wrote and although I have sun in the afternoon and very cold mornings, it is dark all over the place. world is living in this difficult period (and since yesterday also I am a little in the dark) Yuzu will also bring me comfort and to see him again in my precious things too (and I have others with my little girls) me will do the greatest good morally : softYuzu:  :dancingpooh:

Honestly? For me it doesn't really matter where he skates clean. Of course, the Olympics is special, but performance is performance and I wish him to have as many great and unique performances as possible, no matter where they are skated. I cross my toes and fingers that he will have strong skates this week too.

JNats has the big advantage that the camera angles and recording quality used to be very good in the past. It's a blessing for everyone who can't watch live in the arena and I really love to rewatch all the JNats footage from last season.

So we know he's going.  Great!!!  It's in Saitama, which is part of the Tokyo metro and not all that far from Sendai.  My guess is he'll be driven there and also he and his party will stay with some friends or supporters there rather than a hotel.  It'll be easier to stay safe from the nasty virus and it'll also be easier to keep out of sight of avid Yuzu-watchers (he needs to keep himself focused and I don't think the presence of fans outside the competition venue is conducive to his mental concentration).  Speculation as to what's he's doing this year will be widespread around the world (despite what the American media claim, Yuzu's fandom extends far beyond the Japanese isles).  At the end of affairs in Saitama all eyes will now be focusing on Beijing.  The fact that the Chinese aren't letting any foreign nationals into the audience will actually be a disservice to Nathan who, despite his Chinese ancestry I doubt has much of a fan base in China.  That can't be said for Yuzu who all evidence seems to point to his having a huge fan base there, which means Japanese flags (if they're allowed) will be very much in evidence in the stands.  That's also going to make it difficult for the American media who would very much like to frame this as a showdown between Yuzu and Nathan (only to American eyes).  The fact is, and I've stated this before, the real narrative will be Yuzu's seeking a third consecutive Olympic gold (not done in almost a century) which will make that narrative one of the primary ones of the games as a whole.  There will also be the question of whether Nessie will at last be revealed to the world, which if that happens Nathan might just as well forget about competing.  The public sentiment will be overhwhelming to have Yuzu get his third gold.  If that happens Yuzu will be given far more than his usual hero's welcome upon returning to Japan and my guess is that in addition to his becoming-traditional Sendai parade he'll also get one in Tokyo (If so, they'll have to find the longest street in the city to handle all the crowds.

A question though - If Yuzu decides to participate in the opening ceremonies, will he be chosen as flag-bearer?  After all, asides from being the most prominent of all the Japanese competing there he's also one of the most senior.  I don't know how many of the other athletes will be able to call this their third Olympics.  Just a thought.

I think the ways in which the media narrative, both Japanese and internationally, will spin Yuzuru's third Olympic appearance may be more of a reason I'm not so keen on him going...It's inevitable that the media will be talking about Yuzu going for a third OGM as his overwhelming desire however Yuzu has made it very clear in interviews thus far that he really doesn't have an interest in that. His goal has been to land the 4A in a way that satisfies him. If he wants to land the 4A at the Olympics then that is his main focus.  If that remains his main focus, then it's going to be really annoying for me to have to listen to the media coverage and hype about Yuzu aiming for a third OGM when that's more of a second priority (at least as how I interpret his words). If Nathan wins the OGM while the media is spinning their story it's going to be unbearable to hear about his "triumph" over the 2x Olympic champion.

And as much as I would love for Yuzu to be the flag bearer I doubt it will happen. The schedule of the opening ceremonies, team event, and mens event run very tight together I believe. I wouldn't be surprised if all the figure skaters (or male single skaters) skip it. But he might get voted as the flag bearer and he may feel too obligated to refuse. We'll see

Exactly, that is how I interpret Yuzu's words too. So, we don't know yet if he even wants to participate the Olympics. All the hype and speculation before Olympics is so tiring. I wish that the media and us fans would let the man do his thing and we all can hype afterwards :cheer:

I'm both hyper-excited and worried about Yuzu at the Japanese Nationals. Excited for obvious reasons which I'm sure everybody here understands all too well :agree2: And worried about his health and recovery. From the bottom of my heart I pray his injury was minor and he's feeling fine now. Maybe not 100% yet - it'd be too good to be true - but at least relatively fine and not on painkillers. Because I hate the other option. And I hope we'll get to see him smiling a lot. Every single time we get to see his skating is a gift for which I'm incredibly grateful.

So, I guess it's time to renew my VPN and FOD subscriptions and try to get some sleep while I can and then start to panic :panic:

Re: the opening ceremony in Beijing. It's not mandatory for the athletes and IIRC, Yuzu didn't participate in either Sochi or Pyeongchang.

I think it's White Legend at JNats but maybe not in Beijing. Anyway, I'm so looking forward to some sit twizzles!

Oh God, let it be White Legend, I don't know anything so beautiful, that is the masterpiece of the masterpieces :happydance:
