Yuzu, I get that you were very exhausted, but 25m in 10min? That means 1 minute for 2.5 metres

This almost sounds like a typo, because this is extremely slow.

To put things into perspective: I am not an overwhelmingly good breastroke swimmer and I swim 25m in about 35-40 seconds. I guess it was meant to be 25m in 1min. That would be more realistic.

EDIT:

But anyways. If he learned swimming extra for the 4A, I bow down to him. This is really great :2thumbsup:

As any lifeguard will tell you, there are definitely people out there who can take 10minutes to go 25m...but they're usually chatty old ladies who have draped themselves over flutterboards and are having a  leisurely talk with a friend as they paddle along.  :coffeebath:

It's possible there was a typo. Let's wait for other vers. I'm sure they will come out soon.

This almost sounds like a typo, because this is extremely slow. Even for synchronized swimming.

Not in 10min. He takes more than that

Spoiler

(Rough translation through DeepL and me)

Hanyu: Before the Nationals last year, I did a lot of strength/muscle training, along with the practice of Axel jumps. As I'm very thin and not so muscular, if I would say, and my body core is weak, so I always thought that I'm the type of skater whose jumps are not stable. But I also thought that, because of that, my jumps were brought about, and I told myself that it was who I was. But as I practiced 4A, I realized that I couldn't jump it in the same way as before. Then, I thought about what I hadn't done so far, and it was strength training.

So I did it, and as a result, I couldn't jump.

Ikee: Because of too much weight?

Hanyu: It might be because of the weight, but I probably lost my balance. I got injured more often. Also, I realized that I couldn't use them (muscles) well after all. I felt that I had only gained muscles that were not necessary for skating. When I run, I usually get muscle pain. So I probably don't have any muscles good for running. As for swimming, I could not take a breath at all.

Ikee: You had to stop and stand up every time you take a breath.

Hanyu: Yes, yes. It is "How many minutes are you taking to swim 25 meters in the breaststroke?" level.  I probably don't have any muscles for that. So even if I trained on land, I couldn't use the gained muscles on the ice.

Thank you very much for the translation!

So it is indeed that difficult for him... Poor boy, that must be very hard...

But big kudos to him that he tries!

Almost all Japanese schools have a swimming pool (because of a tragic maritime accident of children in the past https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiun_Maru_disaster).  So, Japanese children can swim at least a little, unless he or she does not attend swimming classes for reasons.  But as the teachers are generally not swimming coaches, even if it depends on the teacher, swimming classes are usually a sort of play time (as far as remembering my childhood).  I'm saying this because I'm in the similar level as his :P

I actually don't think it's all that surprising that he can't take a breath during the breaststroke without standing on the bottom of the pool. His body fat percentage is so low, I'd imagine he just sinks like a rock, especially with how high a beginner usually wants to pick their head up to breathe.

That little but vital piece of information just made my day.  I don't need to spend time becoming furious when visiting PH.

Well, when I learned swimming at the age of 7, I was extremely thin. Disney could have casted me for a real-life adaption of the skeleton dance. Absolutely 0 fat and muscles, only the ones that you need to stand up, walk and move your hands. And that hasn't really changed ever since.

However, I really love swimming and in backstroke I even have decent times with 40sec over 50m. Having low body fat percentage doesn't necessarily mean that you cannot stay above water. It's the mix of good coordination of arms and legs, catching the right breathing rhythm and of course power, if you want to reach top speed on competitive level.

Yuzu definitely has more muscles than I have (maybe more fat, too, because I have none), so that alone shouldn't be a problem.

No matter what I do, how much I eat, how many sports I do, I keep losing weight. My gut bacteria are refusing to work for some reason. I have visited countless doctors and specialists, but nothing has helped so far.

The same when I learned around the age of 13/14 years : 1m59 and 44KG and no muscles too   and fitting into the 34/36 (European size) ultra thin .... and as Henni writes, you have to coordinate his movements well and I do breaststroke and backstroke and on the other hand, I have done "yoyos" over the years and my 2 children and now, I am at my youthful weight and you, it's your build (my brother is the same, still the same slim figure)

This is a bit off-topic, but I feel the need to share it:

This is probably the first time that I can roughly feel how Yuzu must have felt after the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami.

Here in my region we had so heavy rainfalls and floodings the last two days, that many of our friends lost their homes and belongings. The cities Hagen, Wuppertal and Euskirchen were hit especially hard. The dam close to Euskirchen has cracked and is in danger to break. I have never experienced anything like this before.

Thank god, our house was not affected, because we live on a plateau, but it broke my heart to see the severe damages in other districts. We tried our best yesterday to help our friends and colleagues to save what could be saved, but we were recommended by the fire department not to leave our house today, because the situation out there is very dangerous and unpredictable. 80 people have died, roughly another 500 are missed in Nordrhein-Westfalen and Rheinland-Pfalz.

I pray with all my toes and fingers that the rainfalls will stop soon and everyone stays healthy and safe 🙏
