I didn't want to bring it up and ruin the mood but since the discussion is back to judging shenanigans... The person who took the decision to invalidate the spin was Mami Maeda who is already infamous for underscoring Yuzu at GFP 19. If she can't put her personal bias aside, she should be bared from judging, period. But hey, we know how it goes.

her name has the word beautiful but her personality is ugly

I don't get this rule at all....so if you spin more than 2 revs your spin will be invalidated? Hence, his spin was invalidated bc he spun more than 2 revs? Or whaatt?? Actually can someone clarify that that's what it's saying?

So to get points you have to either

  1. spin in a basic position with less than 2 revolutions OR
  2. do NOT spin in a non-basic position for 2 or more revolutions

otherwise your spin has no value?

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Which is why I said who english this,,, If anything, I am quite confident in my reading comprehension skills, and I can't understand this segment. I gave them the benefit of the doubt in that they mean if skaters did less than 3 - as per the previous rule, they cannot do less than 2 revs for whatever they did to count as spin.

So:

to get points --> have to be 3 revs

But if not 3 revs, it cannot be less than 2 --> to be counted as a spin

And I am already reaching faaar by this point.

man, why are spin rules this complicated? how does this help differentiate skaters at all if no one can understand the rules?

She was the referee at NHK Trophy, I am even more happy that Yuzuru Hanyu didn't put a blade there! And in her professional life, from Linkedin, she's a HR manager... :banginghead:

As a music piece I could imagine Francesca Gagnon's "Querer".

If he choses a version with better Spanish (Argentinian) pronunciation and a better female tango voice, I could consider it but... :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:

The pitch is 1 or 2 octaves too high and there is just no clear voice play which is, in my opinion, absolutely necessary to make it a tango :14066882:

Sorry, my Argentinian side needed to make its critical appearance here.

I dunno, I just can't see Yuzu skating to a tango - any tango - and I can't really put my finger on why exactly that is. I liked Yuna Kim's interpretation but even then I missed the intricacies of the foot work and except for the music, it didn't really feel like I was watching someone dance tango. So maybe it's a general thing for me, where I'm unable to connect figure skating with tango.

Switching to the spin invalidation now.

What do you guys think it would take to make a ruckus, and I mean wreck actual havoc among ISU through fandom to protest against the their questionable ways. Obviously we can only work with SNS from where we are sitting. Maybe a campaign with hashtags and everything?

Hanyu is experimenting with looks, but has given up on difficult jumps

Hanyu has been acting somewhat arrogant towards viewers and rivals over the past few years, returning programs from past years from year to year. The apotheosis was the decision to return the short under Chopin that season for ... the fourth time. Therefore, Yuzuru could not go to the Japanese championship with the old programs, and even a pandemic would not be an excuse.

. . . . .what utter nonsense is this???

Has this already been posted? A Russian perspective on JSF's judging of Yuzuru Hanyu.

Hanyu returned triumphantly, but was tried by the Japanese judges. Why are they interfering with their own in Japan?

Well, aside from pointing out the horrible judging, they did say something nice about Rika (who will be able to beat the Russians if Worlds happens because all the Russian girls will be sick).

:offtopic2:I don't know, saying that she can only win if her opponents are sick and weak doesn't sound particularly nice. Then again, that article is kind of eh so...

What I'm working on tonight instead of meeting satellites in Montreal before Worlds:

Sing out if you want one of these satellite ID badges. They can be blinged up and personalized with your PH handle, RL name, both,  or just plain. The ones out on the table are ones that have already been spoken for. And yes, I will mail them if you DM me your address.

As for Sven there, he was supposed to be tossed on the ice for a skater, I just hadn't decided who yet.

Just waiting for my chance to put my satellite ID badge on and see everyone again (also, I will be wearing a Pooh face mask).
