Yeah, some people at GS already complained about their methods back when they did the Ladies version. But it was still an interesting table for a general look at height and rotational speed, even if some errors.

That Russian guy seems to me like he is applying a method to make Russian skaters better in average. For example, Polina's jumps are huge but not as huge as he made it to be.

Chris Howarth who is a BESP commentator is the director of Glacier Skating Academy. Yes, that Glacier, where Ouriashev is based, where Shoma Uno goes to train. Ah well.

So Chris Howarth is the commentator who calls Yuzuru’s program not as packed with content as Uno? Conveniently ignore that Yuzuru has put the 4lz which has higher base value then...

I would give him a bit benefit of doubt. Its not the best combo of him, but this jump at WC is ok enough. This happen quite often. I still consider Boyang had the most recent clean comp among top men, at least the protocols said so.

Of course Boyang was the cleanest at WC 2017. Just saying I wouldn’t think the level of his execution should be considered to be squeaky clean as that 3A1lo3S looks like a slight turn out to me.

  4. I am not sure that Russian analysis of jump heights is correct. I think a poster on GS did that the same for ladies and men years ago after Sochi. Then when this analysis came out, he did his own analysis and compared it to the Russian analysis and he said he found some very misleading numbers. It seems that the Russian analysis has made some serious mistakes in calculations, resulted in some very big margins.

Its still clean jumps and he got all positive GOE. Yuzuru's 4S in NHK15 SP and both his quad combo in these 2 events did not have perfect landing either.

Boyang’s 3S in the 1lo3S combo was like a turn out. I think judge was easy on that one and it shouldn’t be called a clean landing. No flow out of the jump is still considered no mistake, but it’s a turn out.

And if they're worrying about peaking too soon, I would think Shoma and Nathan are more likely to have that issue. Although Lombardia gives scores like candy, Shoma still scored extremely high. Since they have less experience with the senior season, I hope they pace themselves well. It'll be awesome to have a clean-ish Olympics with Yuzu emerging as the champion decisively. :tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw:

This season I have good feelings that Yuzuru won’t peak too early.

Actually, Boyang skated back to back clean SP and LP in Helsinki. I thought he did the same in 4CC 2016, but he get negative GOE on 1 element in FS.

I agreed with you about the rest. They keep paint Yuzuru with the whole inconsistent talk but consistency is not a thing exits in men's field Javi never skate 2 clean programs in a comp as far as I remember. I dont think its fair to use Yuzu's back to back clean comp aka NHK/GPF15 is the standard for consistency. Its special because we rarely see 4 clean performances in a row in the men's fields. Even with the ladies, just a few can do that.

What Yuzuru did at COR is better than I expected. I used to worry about the layout in 2nd half, but after his LP, I quite confident he can do it. Better timing, better stamina and he will get there. The 2 quad in 1st half is a bigger problem. But last year at skate canada he fell on both 4lo and it get better as the season goes, so I'm not panic yet.

What's going on now is not new. People always write him off at the beginning of the season. When he's not win, suddenly he become a headcase and 74938023 skaters can beat him soon. Before GPF 2013, some even thought he couldn't make the Olympic team . The same old thing just repeated and I wont waste time to argue with . Even Yuzu and Brian know its pattern, they have been through it for years so they know how to deal with it.

Boyang has one or two scratchy landings in the WC 2017. That’s why I don’t think of his performance as squeaky clean either.

i actually just made some tables on the amount of clean programs there were last season from the top six men across senior b, gp's, gpf, euro, 4cc, worlds and wtt and it was honestly embarrassing. consistency does not exist, unless you mean consistently falling or popping or stepping out of your jumps. yuzu's lack of consistency is commented upon more because of having a higher profile, being wr holder, world champ, oly champ, but they're all honestly as bad as each other

sucks that its being pushed so much this season though, but who is yuzu if he isnt able to fight anything that comes up against him?

My friends are writing a draft to be shared, this is one part of their big post:

    ---------

Figure skating reporters love being consistent with their selective memories and making a big deal of Hanyu's performance as if they expect him to be an Alien Skater who breaks World Records all the time. So every time Yuzuru Hanyu shows us he is just human, they trash him like his time has ended, that he does not deserve to win big titles anymore. They keep acting like Hanyu being human aka making mistakes means the end of his career. This silver at Cup of Russia 2017 is just normal for Yuzuru's pattern as he has never won this first GP of each season in 8 years. Hanyu's first GP total scores have been:
    2012 - 243.74 (2nd)
    2013 - 234.80(2nd)
    2014 - 237.55(2nd)
    2015 - 259.54(2nd)
    2016 - 263.06(2nd)
    2017 - 290.77(2nd)
In fact, whatever Hanyu did at Cup of Russia have been the best performances Hanyu ever showed at the first Grand Prix competition of any season. Most Hanyu's fans know that as the season goes, he will do much better and better as he reaches his peak. But of course, figure skating "professional reporters" love painting us as the "panicked fans who think Hanyu's career might be done."

The North American media keeps trashing Hanyu for his "inconsistency", that it has been a long time Hanyu has not skate clean back-to-back.

Then, what is "skating clean, back-to-back?"  It is when a skater is essentially PERFECT in both the short program and the long program with NO negative GOEs, no popped jumps, no step-outs, no turn-outs, etc....

When was the last time a top male skater had clean back-to-back performances in an INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION, that is ACKNOWLEDGED BY ISU, technically CLEAN and WITHOUT mistakes (all positive GOE, no popped jumps, no step-outs, no wrong edges, no turn-outs, no eked-out etc.)?  IT WAS AT GPF 2015, by Yuzuru Hanyu. NOT BY ANYONE ELSE. Yes, it was such a LOOOONG time ago so NBC, Icenetwork as well as other US reporters have to remind Hanyu that they need him to skate clean back to back again because no other skater has archived the same.

Proof? Go look at the protocol of the men skating for 4 years to see if you ever see any scoresheet like this: http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1516/gpf1516/gpf1516_Men_SP_Scores.pdf
    and this http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1516/gpf1516/gpf1516_Men_FS_Scores.pdf

Repeat after me: NO negative GOE, not even small mistakes like step-outs, wrong edges, turn-outs, eked-out...

I guess you love Hanyu's skating cleanly so much to attack him for his "inconsistency".

  9. Report from the arena, yes he did not skate as fast as he could but he was still the fastest today in the arena. He did not slow down during step sequence or choreographic sequence. He will be fine.

I am glad to see he landed the 4lz. He did not do well with 4lz this morning practice so this is an amazing achievement. I think this is the best GP he ever has so people should stop worrying.

History just repeats itself so fast. He will be very very fine by the Olympic.

  10. I never liked Yuzuru because of his looks. My type is more like Tom Hiddleston, Richard Armitage and all.... Yuzuru is just a kid to me. Yuzuru is like a baby brother to me if I had one.

I love Yuzuru because of his skating and his personality.

Having said that, many times I wanted to strangle him for being so stubborn nd overthinking so you guys are lucky I am not near the kid.

It's sad to hear this, but I also think it's because the JSF would also like to give their other skaters a chance to shine. It would be equally bad if they were seen as neglecting their other athletes. As long as it doesn't move into more underhanded territory than that, then I guess I can live with what JSF are trying to do here.

This is misleading. People's love for some certain thing cannot be explained. I love what I love no one can force me to love something I do not like.

JSF or any other entity CAN NOT force the fans to love skaters they do not care.

Just like ISU CAN NOT force Yuna's fans to pay for competitions she does not attend. Because of Yuna, they spent time and money for her, it's their feelings and their time/money, who can force anyone to invest all those things for something they do not like?

If not for Yuzuru, many people here would have never invested all their emotions, time and money for skating in general, that is the truth. Many of my friends would never spend thousands of USD to fly around the world to see skaters who are not Yuzuru.

I love someone there is no need to explain and justify my love, and no one can force me to love things they hope I will love. JSF has done enough to promote all the skaters they can, the fact is that if they want to slow down Yuzuru's fans just to make people have a feeling that all skaters are loved... is WRONG and naive. Some people are just loved more and there is this fact it can not be changed.

Anyway, Yuzuru is fine with all of this so I am fine. As long as he is practicing already and staying healthy, all the storm in Japan can just go to hell.

It was some show with Nobu and Shoma, and Yuzu said something about marrying at around the age of 25-26? But after watching him hold an iron wrong in a commercial, and our fears for him failing to boil water properly-can you imagine him trying to change diapers?

I am sure after the fiasco in which Japanese tabloid and media spread the false rumors about his "fiancee", his view about marriage already changes a bit, at least about time.

Am I selfish to hope he'll stay until at least 2020 so I can see him in Montreal :sad-smiley-046:

Now if we have some kind of neutral flag which skaters can choose to represent regardless of their nationality, it would be nice for Yuzuru and MANY other skaters.

That's the product of being the only country where Japanese is the official language. They have to build a strong domestic entertainment industry and that's where they make all their money. Foreign fans buying magazines or attending events is peanuts to them, as with fans of movies, bands, etc. as you say. Trying to get a foot in the door makes me feel like we're still in the Edo Period.

That's why I said. Marin and the other young girls going up in the ranking means the same to JSF just like Yuzuru being on top. In JSF eyes, they need domestic stars. Yuzuru is famous with international fans does not mean a thing to them. So it's all the same.
