You know, this entire propaganda game against Yuzu and spreading of negativity, anger and mistrust among the fandom kinda reminds me of the plot in the Harry Potter books. LOL. There are so many Fudges and Umbridges sitting in the leading positions of the ISU and the big feds... not to mention the countless Rita Skeeters in FS journalism. It's really spooky, if you think about it. Also, you can use so many quotes from the series and it 100% fits the current situation: Like... Dumbledore speaking to us fanyus: "We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided. Antis' gift for spreading discord and enmity is very great. We can fight it only by showing and equally strong bond of friendship and trust. Differences of habit and language are nothing at all, if our aims are identical and our hearts are open." "Yuzu is the best hope we have. Trust him." ... or Kingsley speaking to Lakernik, Zhulin and Zakaryan: "You may not like him, but you can't deny Hanyu's got style."

[NEWS] Brian says some really nice things about Yuzu in this latest interview. Especially that take about the "spiritual level" when it comes to Yuzu, is great. Also, Brian's shade that Olympics are a "different beast" than Worlds

Yes, I think this sums up everything very well: It's really hard for me to believe that the Yuzuru Hanyu who was first to skip the GP series and stated in every second sentence that health and safety go first, is so eager to participate in a show with full house crowd in the middle of a pandemic. As long as we don't know the full truth, the worst thing we can do is turning against him. Let's be honest: Wherever IMG is involved, you can expect the ugliest and most disgusting things going on in the background. I know very well what it means to sign a contract where you cannot get out that easily... Let's say, Yuzu refused to participate. I don't even want to imagine what that would mean for his future as a skater. Both in shows and competitions. I remember how disappointed I was about Javi going to Russia last year. It was indeed not a smart move to make cosy selfies with no masks in the middle of a pandemic. However, I feel bad for judging him going there, because we don't know about the skaters' situation, their financial state and obligations or contracts which they may not be able to reject. That's why I feel that I have absolutely no right to judge their decisions. Especially not without knowing the crucial aspects. It's the first year for a VERY VERY long time that Yuzu is not injured or otherwise ill (thank God), so it's not that easy to WD for him this time. I'm sure, the strict participation rules for WTT are the main reason, why Yuzu must be there and I'm sure, there is a similiar reason for SOI.

Wow. Honestly. If I take a quick look at all the stuff Yuzu has unnecessarily been dragged into over the past week again, I earnestly hope that he has beamed himself to Planet Hanyu with absolutely zero connection to planet earth. Is better for the cardiovascular system.

Thank you for sharing this quote! Yes, this is exactly what feel when I think of Yuzu, too. Despite all the success and money and fame, but also the tragedies and injustice that happened to him, he never loses his temper and still remains a grounded and polite person. This is something that everyone can take as an example. You know, I'm a long-time Snooker fan, too, and I love how the fans and commentators anticipate new milestones by veteran players. We are not talking about careers of 5 or 10 years length, but 20 or even 30 years and more. When the GOAT Ronnie O'Sullivan has compiled the 999th century break of his career, British and Chinese newspapers were going crazy and couldn't wait for #1000. When it happened, the crowd burst out in joy and celebration. I really recommend to watch the full 2:58 video, even if you don't know the rules. The whole atmosphere and mutual respect between the players is a must-see: If I compare this feat with Yuzu's 50 clean triple Axels in international senior short programs, it's about the same mindblowing milestone and Yuzu would have deserved a response like this, too. This is something really really special, because it's not only about greatness of the moment, but greatness and mastery of a full decade. Yuzu has proven once and for all that the triple Axel is his jump. He is its true master and the only skater who's able to unleash all the hidden powers of this special element, even if it didn't work out in the free this time.

Thank you! Best wishes from them to the whole Planet, too! Mom still feels a bit responsible for the Worlds result and did not have the heart to make any more predictions about Yuzu's future competitions. I tried to tell her that probably not even the likes of Nostradamus and Seimei had a 100% success rate. That cheered her up a little

Yes! This feels so great You know, I could rant about the scoring, the pathetic narratives, all those people who stab Yuzu notoriously in the back (and playing victim), but I just try my best to contribute something productive and uplifting to our community and get things moving forward in a positive direction. Yuzu is our light and I try my best to be a little LED bulb, too.

I have to add this because king shit XXL This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].

I still can't comprehend this. Yuzuru Extra Hanyu has landed 50 clean triple Axels in 51 international senior short programs. This is so f*** awesome. This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].

I have to think of this conversation in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: “Seems silly, doesn’t it? A wedding. Given everything that’s going on.” - “Maybe that’s the best reason to have it. Because of everything that’s going on.” In a way, this competition may give Yuzu the opportunity to make peace with the past and get over those negative memories related to this venue. The darker the foreshadowing - the stronger is the reason and drive to shut it down with something good
-
Well, in the past they used multiple translations without any credits. Now they gave credit, but boy, using the full x pages long transcript 1:1 and not even asking. That's very unprofessional, especially for a website linked to an official organization like the International Olympic Committee.
-
The changes are currently hidden, but I hope to remove the template tomorrow. I feel that after all the mess that happened to Lae and the Axel with Wings team recently (hello Olympic Channel), they have a right to see the draft first and agree with the content and citation form. That's the minimum level of respect they deserve for their amazing translation work. I strongly believe that - no matter how good or bad our reputation as 'fanyus' is - we as fans must never let ourselves go, but always be examples in how to be respectful, supportive and do proper and serious research work. I think, Yuzu would approve.
-
On a more positive note: The update of Yuzu's page on Wikiquote is completed, we just need the final 'okay' from the Axel with Wings team before publishing it. I've sent them the draft already!

Yup. A lot of people see the clean performance, then the error-filled performance and conclude that the clean one is automatically king-level. They quickly tend to overlook the quality details and also the circumstances [most were not even aware of the asthma attack]. However, I had the impression - especially during the gala - that MANY commentators from different places are very fond of Yuzu's skating and particularly praised his ability to touch people emotionally. I remember the Swedish commentators, the Greek, the Chinese... they still consider him as the greatest, in spite of the results. Also, Daniel Weiss has noted that most of the comments during the broadcast were about Yuzu. During the short, during the free... even the pairs event (lol ) and the gala as well. It's a plain fact that he is still the most captivating and electrifying skater out there - not only in men's, but across all disciplines and I'm sure, whatever the commentators' emotion of the moment is - if you ask them the next they, most of them will still agree that Yuzu is beyond the rest. EDIT: It's unbelievable that it's so hard for him to skate clean... It really feels like there is ALWAYS some unnecessary shit happening around him. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. An earthquake, an asthma attack, a damaged ankle, a warm-up crash, a stomach surgery, a stolen passport from his coach, travelling overkill... I stopped counting. Even, when he had the performances of his life, there were obstacles like... he had to cool his foot with ice packs in Barcelona 2015, asthma attack in Helsinki 2017, skating on painkillers in PyeongChang... I wonder, how many titles other skaters would have won, if they had to face all this mess that he did.

Full German ARD ONE Commentary on Yuzu's SP by Daniel Weiss: "How much we will be entertained, depends on the jumps, too. Quadruple Salchow coming up... Yes, sir! Tight, but good. Quadruple-triple... [He remained silent until the end of the performance] Insane. Everything right on the accent of the music. That was pure entertainment, that was insane. The Galactic is back! Yuzuru Hanyu. Who shall stop this man? Brian Orser. [Camera showing him at the rinkside] Normally it would rain Winnie The Poohs now. The superstar from Japan. There are no words for this. Which superlatives shall you find, for these three minutes? Every accent fit there. I'm sure, in the program components there will be some tens and rightly so. The program components alone- Let's listen what Brian says to him: 'So much fun!' That's true. He had fun out there. 9.75 [for] skating skills, transitions 9.36, performance 9.68, choreography 9.54, interpretation 9.71 points. [Replay showing the Salchow] The quad! [Replay showing 4T+3T] The second quad, perfect position in the air. Costume matching [the program] with the black blades. Triple added after it. This is from a different planet [literally: from another star], who shall stop him? There is only one man on this planet who can stop him and he comes second to last and his name is Nathan Chen. That was, for me, the best short program in the history of figure skating. [This part has been cut from the short clip, but it's available in the full broadcast] To have the coolness to translate every accent of the music into [body] movements, to focus on the choreography [and] the difficult quadruple jumps. Fantastic. That will be the lead of course and with a big margin and it will be top scores. 111.82 is his personal best. [Scores announced] I think, he would have deserved to top that record. He is satisfied with almost 107 points, but honestly: this choreography, this performance - That was a cracker!" This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].

I can translate the full commentary, if you like. But I have to eat my lunch first

Yes, I 100% agree that Yuzu's toe jumps are much lighter and smoother compared to the hammered ones of many other skaters. No doubt about that. Gomen, if my wording was harsh, it wasn't meant to be a criticism I only compared Yuzu's Flip and Lutz with his other jumps and among them - especially the Lutz - is quite "massive". In German we have that word "wuchtig". I don't know, if there's a 1:1 English translation for it, but massive and powerful probably come closest. The story of TenChi could be described as aggressive in some parts, but the music itself feels so light and serene for me. It was particularly the step sequence and the dominant choice of edge jumps that blew me away at Nationals. It was the lightest freeskate I've ever seen in my life. When I saw that 3Lz+1Eu+3S combo in practice last week, it was good (most skaters would probably kill to have a Lutz like that), but compared to the 4T version it felt a bit heavy, even though it was only a triple. It just didn't have the same magical impact on me as the Toeloop has. I totally agree though, that the 3F in H&L was perfect. Maybe as a single jump I would accept it in TenChi (although I LOVE the current 3Lo and hope that it will stay). Same with the 4T+1Eu+3S combo - 120% match with the music and my heart would bleed, if it was replaced by something else
-
For me TenChi at JNats was perfect, BECAUSE there was no Flip and Lutz in it. These aggressive jumps don't belong to smooth, airy and light TenChi and I'm extremely glad that Yuzu felt the same way I don't give a damn about it, if a skater uses all types of jumps or not. A program layout shouldn't be a bingo sheet, not even in competition. Yuzu has proven countless times already that he can do all types of jumps with textbook technique and probably holds the world record of minimum prerotation for all six of them. Bringing them all in every single program just to prove 'hey, I can still do them!' is just... stupid, especially if it ruins the choreo
-
I have to share this quickly, because I can't stop laughing (This was mom's suggestion) If everyone mocks Yuzu for his music choices, why not do a two week long public voting on the official ISU homepage, what the people want to see the most? Here come the voting options that make you shiver and you can only pick ONE Let me entertain you one more season!! Give me REAL ass shaking in Despacito!! Let me recycle Chopin 5.0!! Ultraman!! I don't care about deductions and smash my friggin glove away in Masquerade!! I am Carmen! Not Don José. CARMEN! Got it??!! Yuzurina wants to break free!! I want to land that 4A baby on ROOOOOXANNE!! Hakuna Matataaaaaa!! I keep on FALLIN' in and out of love with ICE-CHAN!! What would be your choice, if all was real?
-
We can only say for sure that Yuzu will retire, when he finally skates his 'Death on two legs' farewell tribute to the judges: Have you found a new toy to replace me? Can you face me? But now you can kiss my ass goodbye

The ultimate SP flex: I speak this into existence

Now that this... ehm... questionable World Championship has come to an end, I'd like to revive an old project. Yuzu has said so many thoughtful and memorable things this week... They really deserve to be immortalized on his Wikiquote page imo. I have contacted Axel with Wings and our translation team from last year already However, it would be really great, if you shared your favorite quotes from him (and about him from skaters and commentators as well), so that we have a nice pool to choose from. If you have some good ones from Nationals or any other occasion since October 2020, please feel free to add them, too! PS: My personal favorite is this one Here is the old thread, where we have collected the quotes. I think, it's best, if you add your suggestions here. Thank you so much in advance!

I did not manage to write anything yesterday, because I'm still paralyzed in some way... There was a fire alert during the 6-min warm-up of the final group and we had to leave our house for a bit less than two hours. Thank God, it turned out to be a false alarm in our neighbor's apartment. He was not at home, so we were forced to call the locksmith and the fire department. When we returned, mom saw the final results and was so down, because she felt it was her fault for not being able to watch live again (of course it wasn't). I was devastated, too. Dad tried his best to comfort us and now we feel somewhat better, but we agreed to cancel everything that happened yesterday... However, no result will change our love for Yuzu and we will always support him until the end
