I think Lakernik said it himself why they are considering this (same reason why they make some rules less strict; I remember some comment about how they eased up on the UR rule because there were too many UR calls last season... like... ugh... if there were many URs, there should be many UR calls? that UR calls penalize a skater twice is an issue, but not that there were too many...): some skaters - or most skaters - can't do everything, so they're changing the rules to make it possible for those skaters to win as well. Personally, I think that's stupid. That's like deciding to not teach functions or equations in Maths in school, so that more kids can get high grades. Or deciding that it's not necessary for school kids to read classical novels, they can just read magazine articles and SNS posts to develop comprehension skills. And in school, that would still be somewhat understandable, but in a sport, deciding to simplify things so as to make it easier for athletes who can't raise up to a certain level is just stupid. It's a sport, it's not a 'let's make it so everybody can win!' thing. In a sport, the best athlete wins. If one could argue that NOBODY can raise to the demanded level, ok, maybe then the rules do need re-thinking. But obviously, it's not impossible. So why not insist on skaters actually improving to such a level, instead of simplifying the sport so they don't have to? But well, it's the ISU, so...

Oh, so here is an idea. Let's split soccer into two competitions. One with only catching balls, and in the other players can just steal the ball among themselves. I think that is a brilliant idea, because not everyone can score a goal so it's unnecessary to have all those players in one team. Oh wait, we could have two different teams at once and split the field. That would spare some costs!

    :banginghead:

I honestly don't know how there could be so many ignorant people on Earth. And ISU is full of them.

I'm done with competitive figure skating when Yuzu retires. I'll follow Yuzu whatever he does.

There is one thing though... Yuzuru as a coach.

And I haven't been able to figure out what would I do in such case. I mean, sure, ISU is going nuts right now and figure skating is changing into figure judging, but I am afraid, if Yuzu becomes a coach, I won't be able to not watch his little students.

Sounds lovely! The individual handheld banners is definitely a plus, shows where they are from without the political baggage. Will the wording be the same?

The map pin is a great idea too ^^ Perhaps can also state that if they have difficulty navigating the map pins, they can add the city to the form?

Thanks everyone for the discussion too!

here's something basic I've come up with, just from the form entries

    mqy6ej.png

    1. If we want the attendees to stick a heart on the site, the banner gotta be LARGE, Europe is already full haha. Also we must ensure the quality of the sticker such that it won't fall off / crumple when the banner is folded?

    2. Should we also have regional banners? Like Asia / NA / SA / Europe / Oceania? Since individual flags are already small and the Europe is so tiny that one "Love" image would cover up the entire continent lol, and for the big banner there might not be enough space to stick everyone's stickers haha, depending on the size. Then maybe add the words "We love Yuzu" at the blank spaces that is the ocean or on top and bottom. Although probably it doesn't matter.

    some additional suggestions

      Hide contents

    3. Should we include countries from the previous graphs as well? Maybe in a different colour, like these will be printed while attendees get all stickers? If so Asia would be quite full haha, maybe we can make it closer to the centre and put words in the Pacific ocean? Maybe we can have separate banners for countries that are represented online from previous graphs and surveys (printed), and continent maps where ppl can stick their stickers on? Also should we include numbers too?

    8cp937.png

Like afaik the largest Chinese Yuzu fan group on weibo has 617,496 members,

Russia has a fan group as well (the largest group I've found on vk is 13k)

Latino America FB page has 40k likes

Vietnamese FB page has 54k likes

Taiwanese FB page has 142k likes

Mexico FB page has 5.5k likes

Japanese FB page has 72k likes

Hanyuyuzurufeed on twitter has 32k followers

Here's the demographic for twitter and here's some more countries from Youtube, done during the birthday project in 2016. This is from the 2019 fan book

Here's the PH one. Maybe we can call for ppl to tag themselves if they want to be represented, not just if they're attending.

Don't have to be precise, but maybe just put the numbers in the general region for the larger groups?

Although that'll mean that the banner will have to be updated T.T Maybe don't print the numbers, but make them removable stickers instead.

I love this color scheme. It looks refined and the red stickers are coming through nicely.

An idea for the stickers: what about cloth hearts? The fabric would be foldable and it would probably last quite long. However, it would need to be pinned somehow, gluing it wouldn't be much effective. The simplest option is probably the classic sewing pin, but it would be hard to handle after competition and we probably don't want to bleed for Yuzu litterally. :68468287:

Then there are various brooch pins, the best option is this one I think:

    Spoiler

    Silver-Plated-Copper-Hat-Brooch-pins-Diy

It would thake the smallest amount of space when placed. But the map banner would have to be accessible from all sides and not too high for people to be able to pin this on. So that makes it more difficult to use. But this type would probably last the longest.

We should certainly consider other options as well, but this could be the most reusable option.

Edit: But of course, if needed, the hearts CAN be glued on. It would become a mess though. I can picture the banner all sticky from the glue and if not dry enough, it would stick all together after competition. And as there are many many fans, the cloth would probably be quite soaked.

Oh, and the hearts could have a black border to make them visible when placed close to each other.

5/8 are Russians and Yuzu and Boyang are truly party poopers among UR and PR jumpers aka RUS/US skaters :ninja:

This just confirmed my prediction that learning to PR jump is alr UNIVERSAL thing as NO new gen's prominent skaters jump with correct technique anymore :notamused:. The day might come when kids think that rotating half a rotation on ice is the correct way, and leaving ice too early is just foolish :xD:

My :salty: prediction for next season:

Yuzuru will be jumping the majestic 4A for the 4T amount of points. In the meantime, any girl with the right flag will have a 3Lz for 4Lz points.... :banginghead:

  5. A bit OT, but not so much.

This thread is funny! ISU made a big mistake with this post. Beware ISU, now skating fans are coming! :rofl2:

Like, really what are they thinking, asking this stupid questions at this time? I am not a big fan of stating my own opinion on sns, but I am probably going to spend my first likes and comments on this thread... ISU neads new glasses, like yesterday. :banginghead:

I love this! The black an white border is great and it will probably suit most of the flags.

Also, I wanted to know how our flag will look, so I've done Poland and Slovakia as well. But I don't have the source images, so this is only a quick paste, to have some visuals:

I can watch this part on loop forever. He is not even doing anything special but it is captivating anyway... How?

It IS captivating. I've watched this like "how-many-times?" on the loop. There is this meaningful gracefulness and elegance that radiates from every move as soon as he put the skates on... It can't be described with words, but you know immediately he is something else. No other skater I've seen had this. Not even the women, except maybe Shizuka Arakawa. (Is it really the Sendai air doing this? How is it possible for two so ethereal people to be born there?)

as of now the only long name that doesn't seem to have a short form that I could think of is Philippines, but imo 2 lines wouldn't look that bad for it since there's a lot of space

Try The Czech Republic... I know, we have a short version (Czechia), but I refuse to use it, because for me personally it sounds rude. So I think I can beat Philippines. :rofl2:

I dunno, there's no reason to believe he didn't put as much research into the archery gesture as the violin gesture. It looked very like the style used in Japanese archery to me. Also, I thought that bit was a self-reference or maybe for his dad since his father has said in an interview that he chose the name Yuzuru, meaning 'taut bowstring about to release' , for him.

Origin 2.0 might be a continuation of H&L in that sense, wherein it's about Yuzu's life maybe.

No, I didn't mean he did not research that enough. I meant he did not hold the position in that actual skate. So when he released the arrow, he was not holding the bow anymore. That's all I was saying. No criticism in that. I adore that move. :7938863:

yea i think ultimately whichever design we go with, it should be visible and clear from afar. I can see why everyone likes the original design, but if you zoom out a lot (see photo below) I think the "WE    YUZU" stood out to me rather than the <3 with the flag on it, and it kind of misses the point because 1. whoever views it from afar won't find it memorable because they have to squint to see the flag, and 2. they cannot recognise half the flags, which again makes it difficult to remember and defeats the purpose. Like, I couldn't even see the yellow stars on the China flag from far away, especially if the flag is going to be a primary info carrier

For example I didn't recognise the Philippines, Belgium and the Romanian flag, and I'm sure there's a lot of others who can't recognise even more flags. Few is going to remember "oh there's this Yuzu fan holding this banner with a non-Japanese flag that I had to squint to see and can't recognise, and I don't bother to google search "flag with white triangle, blue and red stripes" to find it". It's precisely the same reason why "YUZU IS LOVED FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD" didn't drive home the point, because the phrase is vague when there were no concrete memorable example of where exactly he is loved that is beyond their expectations.

vs "oh Yuzu has fans from Philippines / Belgium / Romania / Taiwan / Vietnam / Hong Kong / Peru??" which is 1000x more memorable, and drives home the point that Yuzu has fans from countries that they didn't think he would have fans, and who would fly in just to watch him at competitions. Here the flag is just the illustration rather than the primary info carrier, without which the message would be just "WE   YUZU" over and over again. The idea is to spell it out as clearly to them as possible.

That's the rationale for having the country name - it's unambiguous, clear cut, easy to read and makes it fun for journalists to read out different country names.

to mimic the dark conditions here's some samples I've made. the original brightness can be found here. Personally I'd go with the 2nd row, but I'm not attending competitions so I guess just go with whatever you like.

    c3kg45.png

I like the original design. We can make the heart border thicker if necessary, but that's it.

I don't care if it is not much visible from afar, because we are not aiming to show it to space satellites, but to Yuzu and the cameras in the arena.

Recognizing the flag, again, is not important. Important is to see "hey, they have MANY different colored flags! and this one is different too!". If someone really wants to know, he can search for it. It is not impossible. I grew up searching for flags in the book atlas, no google available. If you want to know, you will find a way to find out.

If we put country names there, it is a nice touch, but with longer names (and I mean longer than probably 5 characters), it starts looking like a licence plate and it is really difficult to get the main info out of it.

WE  YUZU is the best one, because it can convey the most important thing in an easy-to-read way. I don't think visibility is a problem.

  14. In my opinion, many people are supporting only Yuzuru anyway. He is the one drawing in people that would not care a bit about figure skating otherwise. So if someone does say we are supporting only Yuzu, it would be the truth mostly. There is no reason to hide that fact.

We can express our support to other skaters and we should certainly respect them and try not to disturb their competition. But I think we are doing quite well in this area.

If people try to say something because our Yuzu banners, that's their problem and I don't see how it could "backfire" on us. The second Yuzu is not skating anymore, no one is going to see my banner anywhere, so I don't mind being called a Yuzu-centered fan.

  15. 5 minutes ago, Salior said:

Yea I was just hoping that this might help dispel the idea that "Yuzu fans only care about Yuzu" stereotype by showing that Yuzu supporters also support everyone, though it's a bonus at this stage.

I was thinking from a completely ignorant foreigner's point of view and what they would comment about it haha.

Should the idea be "Yuzu fans are trying to show that Yuzu is loved from a lot of countries", which the stark contrast & absence in other skaters' will make it seem like "Why tf can't these fans make a similar banner for other skaters too? They deserve it"?

Or "figure skating fans are trying to show that the Japanese superstar is not just loved in Japan but all around the world"?

For sure we cannot pre-empt all the anti arguments, but this is just something I thought Yuzu would appreciate as well - knowing that our attention and respect is not just for him, but for everyone.

Okay, but showing banner made only for Yuzu and cheering for him doesn't ban anyone from expressing their support for other skaters too. Just not with this banner. Unless you leave the ice rink when Yuzu is done with his skate you can cheer for the others as much as you want and I am certainly going to do that (I mean the cheering. Not the leaving :68468287:). But it would be nice to have this gesture made especially for Yuzu as it was originally meant to be.

  16. 2 minutes ago, Salior said:

Should we open a mini design contest haha

Anyways my initial concern with the original design is that from far away, the first thing that I notice was a repetition of "WE   YUZU", which didn't make much sense to me until I noticed the flags, and took me about 20 seconds to connect the dots. Also I regret to say that I didn't recognise some of the flags rip. I guess it depends on how hard we want to drive home the point that we are from different countries.

I've simplified my design down to this, perhaps with this design Yuzu fans can reuse the flags for other skaters as well? I mean we don't have to be a charity for other skater's fans, but this seem like something we can use for all competitions.

For interest, I guess we can open a "pre-order" form for distribution to twitter etc, basically among known Yuzu fans who have followers and they do go to competitions themselves? Just to gauge the interest

I like your idea but I think we should definitely say YUZU (or Yuzuru). If we don't, it will not drive the point across...at all, I think.

I think we could definitely combine the two?

I agree with @yuzuangel. There should definitely be a big YUZU stated somewhere. I know many other skaters have our support, but the main idea is to clearly state that Yuzuru is the star not only in Japan, but worldwide, isn't it?
