  1. I'm going to put my bitterness about the judging shenanigans aside for now because I want to focus on the fact that I'm just SO proud of Yuzu. I'm a dozen years older than him and I've never sent a fan letter to anyone in my life (even as a boy band loving teenager), but I'm seriously considering sending him one at TCC because I really want him to know how inspirational and special he is. I'm also going to make it a fully Yuzu inspired day by working on my Japanese study and ordering Japanese food. I don't want all of the other stuff to stop me from celebrating Yuzuru 'two time OGM and six time world medalist' Hanyu today
  2. Just saw this and I'm like https://bluebaramuffin121618.tumblr.com/post/183618269068/so-i-watched-japanese-news-with-my-mom-japanese
  3. Ah, I knew Joubert had a world title but didn't realize he had six total world medals. Still, if Yuzu picks up #6 we could give him the edge since he has two golds to Joubert's one. Of course, this is all in fun, it's just nice sometimes to look at the big picture of how truly accomplished Yuzu is.
  4. I've been looking at that wiki too and it's fun to analyze. Yuzu's not in the top ten since they're ranking by # of gold medals, but if you just look at world medals in general Yuzu would be in there ahead of Scott Hamilton, who only has four total, and if he medals on Saturday he'll also pass Browning in terms of total medals. And yes, if we were including Olympic titles it would be a whole different ballgame. I also think it's fun that if he medals on Saturday he'll save the same total number of world medals as Dick Button. The next thing I'm wondering after looking at this...I believe Patrick Chan has five world medals (three gold, two silver). So if Yuzu picks up a sixth, will he be the only six time world medalist of the IJS era?
  5. My one piece of unsolicited advice is that if you're feeling down, resist the impulse that some of us have to torture ourselves by reading discourse from elsewhere. As an American fan I've been much happier since I decided that it's truly not worth my time to watch or read any American skating coverage. No PR campaign on behalf of another skater is going to make me like Yuzu less or convince me that he's not the GOAT, and the same goes for the opinions of other skaters' fans. Of course discussion and debate among fans is fun sometimes, but you don't have to absorb that stuff if you're sad at the moment. Personally, I'll be sticking to the Planet for the foreseeable future, and I really appreciate this space on a day like today Also, for a bit of distraction, a question that came to my mind that I haven't had a chance to look up yet: at 24 Yuzu is already a five time world medalist, and will hopefully be a six time medalist in a couple of days. Where does that put him on the all time list, and also in terms of just the last few decades?
  6. I'm pretty sure Shoma is competing at 4CC, he had just mentioned on his website recently that his injury was healing slower than he'd like so there was a point where he thought he might have to withdraw, but it didn't actually happen.
  7. Personally I think that Miki is just a little bit messy in general. Like, she also retweeted all of Johnny's zillion tributes to John Coughlin so I'm really not checking for her opinion on anything
  8. I've done some work in social media management so I'm seriously fascinated watching this unfold. I tweeted at him much earlier and my mentions have been blowing up since, so I just checked and hours later he's STILL getting dragged I'm sure he never expected this one comment to blow up like this, but I also can't say I feel too bad about it. People are constantly saying annoyingly stupid and/or incorrect things about Yuzu or using him in one way or another for their own gain, so I'm kinda okay with watching someone actually get held accountable for it for once.
  9. I wasn't into the order of plaques either initially but now I kinda like it because having something else in between really emphasizes the fact that Yuzu has two separate plaques from two different Olympics, rather than just seeing his name and kinda visually glossing over the fact that it appears twice in a row.
  10. I replied to the initial discussion about it precisely because some people were concerned about this other reading that was done, and my point was that there's no need to worry about one person's interpretation of a reading. I also put the reading that I did under a cut so people could easily skip over it, and I had nothing more to say about it until someone asked me a direct question. I don't really anticipate it being an ongoing deep discussion about the topic.
  11. I didn't read that person's original reading, just the summaries of it here, but I wouldn't worry too much. At the end of the day every reading is just that person's best interpretation of the cards that they pull. Even with the relatively simple three card reading that I shared here, there were a lot of different things that came to mind when I thought through how each card might apply to the situation. The card that I pulled in the future spot was very positive, so I'm choosing to go with that for now and keep an optimistic view.
  12. Random thought I had while looking at this cover..is it me, or does his pinkie look a little bit better? It might just be the angle but I'm willing to take small signs of healing where I can find them right now
  13. So the tarot topic is an interesting one to me since I’ve studied tarot a bit and have even done some readings for people that have proved to be very accurate to the situation that they were in at the time. I do think that it’s important to remember that tarot is not some magic system for predicting the future the way that some people think of it. (And to be clear I just mean that as a general statement, I’m not saying that anyone here was thinking that or was overreacting to the reading that was being discussed.) Readings are also partially dependent on the mindset of the reader and their own interpretation of the cards that they pull. That being said, this discussion made me curious so I decided to grab my favorite deck and ‘inquire’ about Yuzu’s situation. This weekend has been bonkers enough for all Yuzu fans so why not. But I’ll spoiler cut it for those that don’t care about this topic. If anyone had told me a year ago that I would be discussing tarot on a Yuzu fan forum, I would have been fully , but here we are. The Power of Zu.
  14. I've been thinking about it and while obviously I know that, objectively speaking, skating while injured isn't the smartest thing to do, in a weird way I'm glad that Yuzu made the decision based on his own personal priorities. Of course I'm sure that some sense of obligation factored into the decision, like the fact that people like Edvin Marton, TAT, and Sasha Plushenko were there to see him skate, but those were 'obligations' coming from his own choice and desire to do this tribute program and skate it in Russia rather than external obligations imposed on him by the JSF or anyone else. In that sense, I respect his decision to skate, and while it sucks on toast to see his season derailed again, I think that this gold medal will mean a lot to him and I'm glad that he was able to go to the medal ceremony and feel the love and appreciation from everyone.
  15. I think you're right to be very skeptical about it. I noticed the change in tone too and the other possible reason for it, I think, is that Dave is friendly with people like Doug Haw and is able to get some access that way to things that are happening at TCC. He probably doesn't want his sources of TCC news and gossip to dry up, so he's trying to be careful not to spend too much time bashing TCC skaters.
  16. In the comments of the latest TSL video, someone asked them about the fact that they're profiting off of the likenesses of skaters with these new products, and one of the things that they said in their reply was that they've given the skaters a lot of publicity over the years and the profits from this merch will help them to keep creating content that promotes skaters. I was literally and then at the suggestion that skaters like Yuzu or Tessa & Scott are in need of or benefiting from TSL's 'publicity' in any way.
  17. That sweater with the little heart also looks like something I've seen Jun wearing several times, so maybe it was Wear Your Student's Gifts Day at TCC.
  18. In Johnny Weir's instastory today he held up a Yuzu folder and said that he uses it to carry all of his documents
