Before the arrival of NC I did not know that USF had that much power in ISU. Their ladies weren't strong for a while so I thought NC wouldn't be marked for his nationality, but I think around 2019 I started to notice things that were blatantly obvious. I think what broke this prejudice for me was 2019 GPF when I clearly look back at Yuzu landing the most perfect 4Lz and 4Lo in his free and landing most of his other jumps well but still lost.

I am kind of shocked that NC is invited to all these late night talk shows all of a sudden it's like USF even has power on the US mass media, like not all gold medalists are invited to Jimmy Kimmel, but NC was. I am starting to finally realize that although figure skating is a minor sport, the power it has in US is different, and the I can tell that the US has been waiting for a men's champion for a long time, and now that they have finally got one, I can only imagine how much they will downplay Yuzu more so in the future. The more Yuzu continues skating, the more of a threat he is to their entire narrative. I think the next seasons that Yuzu continues skating will be even harder on Yuzu and on us because of this.

Yeah I remember Alysa Liu was also on Jimmy Fallon show after she won nationals at 13. Unfortunately she couldnt survive her the one season wonder curse. If Illia cant keep up the consistency then I think the USfed will try to stop Nathan from retiring. yesterday Nathan was trending on twitter for the first time -- at least first time i noticed. no wonder everyone wants the ogm bc of how much commercial value it brings. idk if this will motivate Nathan to stay for the next few years as well. He probably wont get to Yuzu's star power but the ogm and push from US fed have def helped him reach his new level of stardom for sure. good for him i guess.

if Yuzu is retiring then i dont care whether Nathan will retire or not but if Yuzu isnt then obv Nathan is still the biggest threat plus other countrymates who are more pushed like Yuma, Shoma, maybe future Kao (Idk)...etc. the isu already made the podium too crowded for him last quad. If Yuzu keeps competing it will benefit everyone else the most. They have been painting him as a popular guy who has bullying fans to keep him relevant. its hard to be Yuzuru Hanyu or his fan.

I know a lot of us dont like doom and gloom comments but I think it is normal for some of us to express our fear. I'd rather see them here because I know we will have other more wise satellites to keep us in check. Otherwise, we would only go on twitter or IG and who knows how much it can escalate. At the end of the day, I think most of our fear stems from wanting to protect Yuzu and all things good for him. The past four years had been really rough for Yuzu (and his fans)- he was treated more unfairly, got people turning their backs on him, injured, couldnt achieve some of the goals. So personally I empathize with a lot of the emotions on this forum. But  with that being said I also really encourage is after we vent about the bad and the ugly, that we also try to celebrate the good. For example, if he didnt keep competing after PC, he wouldnt have won another 7 WRs or achieved super slam or come out with new programs or jump beautiful jumps like 4a, 3a3lo,4t3a, 4lz...etc. He also skated better than he ever did before and his jumps got even bigger. He earned more respect from his true fans and came to the realization that there are things beyond winning and things beyond his own control. He seemed more open about these things now. Of course I cannot claim to understand how Yuzu feels in his deepest private moments, but based on his interview responses, his outlook toward competing appear to have evolved in a positive way. He seemed to enjoy training, practicing, challenging, and skating more than before. It's a great silver lining to talk about too. He will always have a group of fans to stay with him through the storm regardless of placements. Easy come easy go --if people are his fans just for his medals then they will leave him once he stop medalling. But thats obviously not the case here, which makes me feel very proud as a fan. Prior to Beijing, Yuzu was afraid his 2 OGM will be affected (sorry cant remember exact quote) but after he finished the competition, he mentioned that he will always be proud that he won 2 ogms and will hold his head high. So I am trying to liken his mindset. There was a fear that if he keeps competiting and losing then his past legacy would be erased. The truth is there will always be those who are quick to erase his legacy regardless. There are those who have never acknowledged in the first place. So its a losing battle to try to prove them wrong. I look forward to all the things that will happen one competition at a time. I am hopeful that whatever decision he chooses for himself, he is strong enough to handle the outcome because he is Hanyu Yuzuru.

    on another topic

    Spoiler

sad about the witchhunt situation on Javi's IG. I just wish fanyus could be a bit more controlled at times. some battles are needed yes but other times its a bit foolish. i guess this is the cons of having a huge fandom. Now that Javi "apologized" its only painting Yuzu and his fans in an even more negative light. i guess there isnt much else to be remedied so hopefully this is the end of it yikes

  2. This is the difference between Yuzuru Hanyu and other so called top skaters - class. Yuzu is a world class superstar not only bc of what he has achieved but also because of what he has actually offered for the sport -- his skating, his sportsmanship, his class acts. He doesnt open his mouth unnecessarily and when he does only great things escape from it. His skating speaks for his medals. His actions speak about his class. He doesnt have sns or go on tv to talk trash about anything or anyone. That is why not all who won a medal can be called a champion. Many people can medal but only one is a champion and that champion is Yuzuru Hanyu.

Do you see someone with class go on social media to pit fights (the russians) or being two faced hyproctites who suddenly become social activists for justice (usa puppets) or talk trash about ur past teammates (javi)? i used to be so intrigued about commentaries by commentators, the media, professionals, coaches, and other athletes said about Yuzu. But now I have reservation for everyone. I will only support Yuzu from now on. (btw the Javi x Yuzu shipping thing was one of the most cringeworthy things ever for me.) I hope Yuzu would remember every single two faced people in his life and cancel them. But I guess he is too busy doing champion thing so he wont. Lol While these people will stay salty that they can never reach Yuzu's level of stardom no matter how hard they try to tarnish his reputation because how? Yuzu's heart is made of gold and legend never dies.

I'm distancing myself from all media regarding figure skating so I can keep myself sane. Tbh, I'm quite calm about this result, just sad because Yuzu's figure skating's ideal has not won here and I'm afraid sometimes, they could use a movie to rewrite the truth and history. The only comfort for me is that Yuzu has won everything and his legacy could never be erased.

Same! and if anyone erases Yuzu's legacy then nothing else should be a legacy at all.

Like how Alina used to respond to the press "i already won everything"

The thing about saying how something is really wrong with Yuzu's health without much evidence, and is that you make other fans more anxious and stressed, and possibly for no good reason. That's what I mean when I say "put negative energy into the universe." It's not about superstition, it's about how overstating his health problems affects people who might read it.

I imagine this is probably a pretty routine injury, unfortunately. Hopefully it heals quickly--I imagine it's probably less severe than the injury that made him withdraw from NHK. At least he'll have some time to rest before the gala.

umm i doubt everyone cares enough to put others in mind before writing something. sometimes its just to put out our thoughts. its not my job to make someone feel better. good if you can but if not its beyond ones control. its not like we are making pure assumptions. his expressions when he winced, his pale face. And if it affects you then its part of being on a forum and reading comments

Besides, he won't have a skating career like Yuzu does. People are not attending ice shows in the U.S. His gold may create a buzz for a while, but I doubt he will be able to make a living out of skating.

thats quite harsh. even skaters who arent the top athletes have been making a living out of fs in different roles. now hes ogm he could easilt skate in ice shows, do other commentary works, or even become a coach..Japan welcomes a lot of skaters esp foreigners.

I really don't think Yuzu's in as bad shape as you guys are saying. Outside of the 4A< and the sal which was probably affected by the 4A fall, his jumps were beautiful, and usually the first thing to go when something is wrong with Yuzu's health is his jump quality. Constantly saying how bad he looks just puts negative energy out into the universe. He may have injured himself a little but it's clearly not that severe, and anyone would be winded after attempting a 4 quad program with a 4A.

cant we just be worried and put out our concerns? this is a forum so different opinions are naturals..let the fans be fans.  people care. if you dont like to read them you can block it out. its not like everyone believes in the universe thing. cant go policing all the time. its not like we're stating anything factual. if whatever i say comes true then Yuzu would have been 3 time ogm

Well going clean is less hard when you know the judges and the fed have your back and will prop you up even if you make mistakes, and that's not admirable imo.

He's only a marginally better skater than 4 years ago (and in some ways he's worse), so he hasn't even worked to deserve hi ridiculous overscoring. It's shameful in my opinion.

And now we have Yuma that is more overscored than even Nathan was in his first two senior seasons. Gonna be another quad of shit results in comps i bet.

i guess i dont agree that being backed up will guaranteed you auto can go clean jumps for that long. theres also the russians who also have big feds but not everyone could be that consistent. confidence from scoring is def factor yes but there could be other factors like injuries, pressure, nerves...Even back then when Yuzu got nicer scores and huge lead over others, he wasnt always that clean with lower bv content. Do I think Nathan deserves any of his scores, his approach to skating? not at all. But id give him the credit when its due. he happens to be one of the most inflated skaters ever but I wouldnt discredit his effort and consistency.

U think he'll go to 2022 worlds then retire or retire now after beijing? I may prefer yuzu than nc, but i kinda admire him a bit, man really redeemed himself this time from 4 years ago. Anyway, congrats to yuma and shoma as well. I am so proud of them😍😍😊

I cant comment about the retirement. But I do have to congratulate Nathan hard. doing clean competitions one after another is not easy. He really proved himself to me more worthy than 4 years ago. His scores they are noises now to me. But his efforts, I do acknowledge. Props to him to stick it out another 4 years and got more consistent these last years. I think he may have wanted a different route but now he is OGM who knows. maybe he isnt going to retire soon like people think. Thats why if its up to me I hope Yuzu can just skip the next competitions. It doesnt need to be a dramatic exit or anything. He just doesnt have to answer anyone. Just rest I hope.

eta: wow at least Yuma isnt going to be the youngest ogm.
