  1. Aside from jumps, although Hanyu is levelheaded and knows what he needs to work on to get his ideal skate, I'm also glad Brian seems to have a similar goal in that he wants Hanyu to be a complete skater with attention to skating skills and performance and thus he tries to make Hanyu focus on that when the kiddo gets too eager or intense with his jumps. I like this approach better as better skaters makes better programs even if the end goal is a medal its not the only thing to strive for.
  2. Not really OT because it has to do with Vincent, (but not Romeo), I know when talks about BV and jumps came around people were speculating that with the push from US more edge calls, cheated take offs and URs might be called if they don't want Nathan to fall behind Shoma BUT if the US is trying to push Vincent with his bad jumps as well...what if scores really do get crazy this Olympic cycle? As always it's the skaters (including Hanyu) who has taken care and time to improve that are getting the short end of the stick.
  3. I like how you emphasized this demographic in your request Yep, totally the most subtle insinuation that the niigata broadcast should have more Hanyu shots
  4. Cowards isn't the exact wording I would use or think Yuzu would use but yep it's so frustrating when I see even as a new fan how much he loves the sport that he's making big efforts to push FS forward but the judges are not rewarding it thus are not pushing other skaters forward too. Once Yuzu, you know what, will FS be nothing but a bland quad race if no one else steps forward? Edit: Well, not saying some of the guys aren't trying or that they don't have years ahead of them to try, but the judging is still the problem. I read on GS the frustration of a poster who says it doesn't make sense why viewers get the benefit of multiple angles and slow mo but the judges don't. I agree. Like why would they blind side themselves like that? They should be in the more advanced position to judge with multiple resources to make good decisions, not us.
  5. It would be cool to see all the list of qualities Yuzu took from other skaters or that which motivated him to be such a complete skater that he is today - the boy has a good eye, sees and acknowledges the best qualities of others, and is a genius in making it his own. Case in point at younger age he also wanted to do 3A after seeing Mao? And he admires Yuna's ability to seamlessly add jumps to her programs. And then there's the Plushenko and Johnny Weir influence early on. Then the list goes on in his senior years.
  6. You guys are awesome, and I wish I didn't have to break the flow of discussion, but please help out a newbie here: what is a rippon and what is a tano? Are there gifs? Honestly, literally, I've been wondering about them for ages and didn't think I could find it in FS guides which mainly explained jumps and other major scoring stuff and not moves - plus it didn't even help when I googled it (or maybe I just didn't find the right keywords).
  7. I think sometimes we may forget that a certain thread exists for a topic. Or a certain discussion about something in the general thread turns into an entirely different discussion. If its one or the other I think its reasonable to be kindly pointed in a direction where the conversation can be resumed. In any case, thank you mods and admins for your patience.
  8. And so BV being the same anyway in or out of combo, the only reason to put jumps in combo at all is to avoid zayaking? Like there's no extra point for it being a combo?
  9. I can only partially internalize everything but thankyoul @xeyra and everyone else who pitched in. Supposedly Hanyu does his own math so I would think he actually does something similar by predicting BVs and making his own calculations. We won't ever get the entirety of his work behind the scenes alongside just his skating and training to be on top but when his fs is announced and he explains his reasons behind it in context of his competitors and the Olympic season I'm sure I'll be awed again by his shrewdness.
  10. I found the discussion intriguing and enlightening plus just knowing everyone's opinion whether they disagreed or not peeled layers especially since a few of us have been here longer and have more fs knowledge. I can understand how it can distress some people though but I truly believe everyone here cares about Yuzu and just wants the best for him. Tbh personally I'm a worrywart to the point that I sometimes drop a drama when it gets too intense even if its just acting. I found reading the many possibilities and speculations for next season and the Olympics, the good and bad, very helpful in that case. Edit: will skip over to the other thread for the rest. Thanks!
  11. I agree that it takes time for artists/athletes to mature, and there is a peak time for everyone, but in the case of Nathan I heard he's not here for the long haul and is perhaps planning a different career after the Olympics so for him his team will probably rush and the fact that he's the best bet for medal for the US since forever means he'll get the push as well. Like everyone has said though, it's all out of our hands and Yuzuru has the smarts to know what he is doing so fans and his team will keep on supporting him (even though some fans may or may not be disappointed in his FS when it is announced). Most importantly hopefully the JSF does their share of supporting him also because, although I do not know much about Ladies, there was conspiracy talk about how the JSF treated Japan's golden girl Mao during Sochi - if someone can englighten me - what was that all about?
  12. This is the reason why I'm so afraid for Hanyu next season and hopes he really prioritizes consistency (as he said) as that's an advantage at a time when we have several OGM favorites with strong feds. A higher BV was the same strategy that a young Hanyu used to beat Patrick when PCs was in Patrick's favor during the Sochi quad and now that even the young talents are getting enormous PCs and GOEs its all about who has a good day and lands or rotates their jumps. Perhaps its a theory or gossip, I also read somewhere that judges do not like to give repeat gold medals? (although it's been done before). Hanyu may skate lights out and still get silver like Yuna. My pessimism is making me sad and stressed for no reason since its all speculation and in the future anyway. Urgh
  13. Just want to butt in and say that its a shame this is no longer reflected in PCS because of bias and inflation. (And politcs.) I'm indifferent to Patrick but the cushion with some other skaters should be higher. Of course people have their preferences but there are some things you can't deny and the judges are seeing all of this live too so they should be able to differentiate even more.
  14. I was browsing through the blog of an unrelated topic on my phone (at work) and suddenly I noticed that all of the ads on that page were from amazon prompting me to buy Yuzuru Hanyu photobooks/magazines. Yes, the browsing cookies finally kicked in! This is the first time an ad made me smile because just seeing pretty Yuzuru out of nowhere when I least expected it makes me smile. Sunken deep.
  15. He answered the question with such wisdom at 20 years old, which just proves that he's out of this world and I will never raise a son like him: Question by female reporter in interview upon return from GPF 2014: Although you are young, you are very humble. Many mothers want to bring up their children to be like Hanyu-senshu. How should they bring up their children to be like you? Yuzu: I don’t think I’m humble at all. Just the opposite, because my character is too fixated on winning, as a sportsman, I have an unyielding spirit and a big mouth. That people want their children to be like me makes me happy. But at the same time, I am me, each person is different and each child has his/her own goodness. I have a lot of very bad areas too. If you don’t only look at the bad parts but look at the good parts as well, I think (the children) will be happy and will be able to grow more. Please allow me to say this because I have turned 20. (laughs) Please check out the source at yuzusorbet (she/he also included the video): http://yuzusorbet.tumblr.com/post/107107463237/yuzurus-wisdom-in-bringing-up-children-question/amp
  16. EH??? Actually, I love the dramatic opening/ending montages that the Japanese do for these competitions. It pumps me up! I especially love the song that they use and when it reaches a crescendo. I think it's always the same song at least? But agree that this one looks the best! I spent a good afternoon this weekend looking for more of these montages, unsuccessfully, and so happy you posted this one for worlds 2017! For real, I have the two videos below open as a tab on my computer just so I can rewatch them (especially the snippets of Yuzu) over and over! Throwback to Nationals 2011 when Yuzu won his ticket to worlds and then Worlds 2012 where Yuzu made his mark internationally with R&J 1.0. Looking back at his journey, he's grown so much! *tears up*
  17. Mte. I actually prefer Boyang over Nathan but Nathan has a bigger fed and more hype on his side. The media too takes part in this. I mean, that shiny bubble that inflated over Nathan's Nats scores and ubers gushing over it says the USA is serious.
  18. He's the D10 of this generation - the guy with a weaker fed who comes out of the dark and causes upsets. Though I think he's a contender for silver or bronze but not gold. Not yet anyway.
  19. Loving all these discussions. So interesting to read and so many opinions, most of it I agree with or makes me think. Question: did Hanyu proclaim sometime last season that it was his last performance of H&L? The reception wasn't as hot as Seimei but is there a chance he might repeat this fs for the Olympics instead and changing the last jump or jump layout? It's probably been already said, maybe by even Hanyu himself, but focusing on securing his fifth GPF gold medal should be his immediate goal and priority as it will help him build momentum and tbh whoever wins GPF over Hanyu (if it isnt Hanyu himself) will go into the Olympics as the favorite of the season which matters the most as skaters will show growth that matters the most (or vice versa) this season. I want Hanyu to skate a performance at Olympics that he can be happy with even if he doesn't get gold but tbh my heart will still break if he doesn't get OGM because if losing his world title for two years taught us anything about Hanyu, it's that he also takes as much pride in being able win over strong competitors and losing will not only gut him but he might not have chance to retake it like he did for worlds.
  20. N - (High-level) Narcissist (edit: meant in a good way, of course. just me reading old threads and coming across the debate on this description about him) V - Vampire Z - Zhenya-magnet
  21. < x < *whispers* I saw what you did there. Ingenious use of the new (Borser) emoji. Anyway, for once I'd like commentators to acknowledge that not all Asian fans carrying Japanese flags for Yuzuru or banners are Japanese. (I myself am Asian-American not of Japanese descent.)
  22. I'm trying to use this off-season to catch up on Yuzu by reading old and all threads from GS and here (so I won't bother you all with questions with obvious answers), but my GOODNESS I keep on getting sidetracked by all the pretty Yuzu thumbnails on Youtube and Dailymotion and so I end up watching and rewatching clips/performances/fancams/news of him instead of catching up. WHY IS THIS BOY SO PHOTOGENIC! WHY IS HIS FORM IN THOSE THUMBNAILS ALWAYS SO PRETTY! Like tbh I can't multitask. Old news, but - I just can't over this fancam of his reaction to the lady announcing that he and Shoma are from China and then getting it correct for Boyang. He is so precious! WHY ARE HIS EXPRESSIONS ALWAYS SO OPEN AND HONEST! I guess this is why the boy is a living meme.
  23. I did not watch YOI, but didn't they throw, like onigiri, sushi and other food items on the ice for Yuri? I know skaters usually donate plushies that they can't keep, but I wonder if a fan throw a Yuzuru Hanyu plushy on the ice for him if he'd donate it? It's one thing to donate a pooh toy and another to donate a toy of yourself, lol. (Though I think most fans would want to keep a YH plushy for themselves.)
