Been watching old Yuzu videos lately and...I miss watching him compete 😔🤧 and there won't be a competitor like him ever again. You never know how good you had it until it's gone. 🥺😢

Totally agree. I haven' t been able to watch his shows, and the clips I've seen , well, the skating isnt the same for me... the excitement, nerves, rising to the occasion... I've always loved competitive skating more than shows and while I haven't watched much skating at all this year, what I have watched is competitive. It is still what I enjoy most. Watching Junhwan, Yuma... I watch them now, but the feeling is nowhere near the same as the Yuzu years.

I still love Yuzu, but my days of coming here every day are gone.

  2. Just to clarify, when I wrote my post earlier which was quoted, I didn't mean to imply Yuzu did anything wrong. He did not. It is not his fault the media acted as it did, I was just explaining the nature of the beast (paparazzi). You also cannot compare him to others: he's a gorgeous MALE performer and that sells more papers. His perfectly normal actions and requests were always going to be ignored... I would have bet big money on it. He's too big a star, too interesting to leave alone. There was no victim blaming intended in my comments, it was rather a post reflecting my opinion of the paparazzi and how they operate... pretty much everywhere... and that is different than other media. I apologize for misunderstandings.

  3. Very sad for Yuzu. I thought he finally had all he could wish for... and with his pro career he would have even more success and happiness, especially with a new wife to support him. How devastating for him to realize that all the things he worked so hard to achieve in life have made having a normal marriage impossible because he's catnip for tabloids.

Unfortunately, in this day and age it is impossible to remain private... especially if you say you want to be private. That's like waving a red flag in front of a bull. Maybe in hindsight they should have released photos on their own terms, like some celebrities do, in order to lower demand for pap pictures and control the narrative... but, I'm not in Japan so I can't know if that approach would work there. Yes, i realize that is 180 degrees out of character for him...and, No, you should not have to do this... but this is his current reality... and his actual approach did not work.

I hope they can somehow figure something out so that they can be together. I'd hate for him to feel that his life, popularity, and work make any personal goal impossible. For many of us regular folks, our jobs are just jobs so it would be easy for us to give up our jobs to save the marriage... this is not the case for yuzu.   It's noble that he wants to release her for her happiness, but it should not come to that.

  4. I know I'm the only one, but I want to take scissors to those sideburns.... NOT a fan of that sort of styling.  It's too stylized.

(I cut my own hair this morning, so maybe that's causing the itch to use scissors some more)

Edit: I noticed many of the Korean figure skating girls have longer sideburns... is this a thing? I'm sorry, im middle aged, I don't know young or eastern trends.... educate this old girl. No offense intended.

  5. So, I woke up to a new day here in North America... and my brain is still saying, really? It's really true? Haha. I still laugh at the composition of the announcement (hi, married, skating, skating, skating), like maybe hoping no one would notice the word, but totally wanting to tell the world first..... and boom, it's done. Zero to Hero in 1 message:hugs:  ( by zero I meant zero relationship news )

i hope they are feeling the happiness of the fans and enjoying all the celebratory messages now that the cat is out of the bag.  It is heartfelt.

  6. This is yet another reason Yuzu inspires me.

Today was my day off and all I've accomplished is 1 load of laundry and changing my sheets... in an entire day. On a normal day Yuzu would probably wake up at lunch, practice, write a book, pose for a magazine spread, call his parents, call his significant other, play a video game, spend time with Pooh, design a costume, video choreo a new program, nap, and bake cookies. Seriously, this guy's time management skills...

I should definitely be getting more out of my time/life!!

I hope we never find out anything about his partner tbh, i remember when Miyano Mamoru got married, his wife got death threats and when they announced they were expecting, people on the internet were wishing that she would miscarry. And this was just a voice actor, imagine someone as high profile as Yuzu...

I agree.  I'm hoping, unlike the dogged British tabloids, the Japanese ones respect his privacy. So far he's kept it secret and hopefully they continue to be thwarted... unless he himself reveals more, which I doubt. He's never courted publicity other than with his skating persona.

Hmm... that TV show sounds interesting now....

Remember Jason said he'd see him in September, or something like that. Still wonder what that's about...

  8. Just because it's fun to wonder...( love that no tabloids caught this!! ) I mean, he must totally keep skating and private life separate... many people in relationships would have their partner travel with them to events, like going with him to his shows/tours... and people might catch on... I wonder if she did go to those things with him or if she stayed at home, or if she was there but neither acknowledged the other... or if she skates or does something that would explain her being around... I'm just so impressed with this. Everyone involved kept it quiet which is rare.

people are good at figuring these things out. I remember people figured out Meghan Markle was dating Prince Harry just because they spotted her wearing the same bracelet in a picture, how random is that? Now I bet people will be searching for any clues they can find... but theBritish press is totally different from those in Japan, so maybe not.

  9. I know we have no right to expect it, I'm always amazed and proud of his ninja skills... but I really would love to know her first name. I don't need pictures or any other info, this is Yuzu, but just to be able to congratulate Yuzu and ________ would be nice.

I actually can't stop smiling... it's like my adopted grandson got married!

  10. Congratulations, Yuzu and wife!!! How strange that sounds.... lol.

But, really, boy has been very busy lately!!!!! All his pro stuff, skating tours AND a serious relationship ( but really, when you know, you KNOW so why wait?). I swear he either moves fast or has some serious time traveling skills.

Wish them all the happiness they can get from this world!!

  11. Maybe being here , there and everywhere is just too much for him now. Jun has shown he can do well training in Korea, so hopefully it all works out. And maybe, now with his success, there are more opportunities opening up for him that also demand more time from him. We shall see.

Feel sad for Brian, you can tell he was sad to hear the news ( you get attached to long time students who grew up with you), but that's coaching. They come and go.

  12. Wow. Yuzu really loves Johnny so much. He was crying harder than I have at funerals... I hope Johnny appreciates that. To me, there was nothing overly special about his skating, but for Yuzu to idolize and be inspired by him is surely one of Johnny's biggest honours... to inspire the best ever? Heady praise.

Sadly, it's over another year. Hope Yuzu has a nice rest in the summer, (or whatever he considers rest) and can recharge those batteries for the events to come.

  13. Ah yes, happy birthday!! I remember those first few days well and how hard the founders worked to make it happen. Well done and thanks to them again, for continuing to host such a warm and welcoming place :cheer::cheers:

  14. So, yuzu was admitting to Tetsuko to being mentally tired after all his shows... well, no wonder. He packed a huge amount into a short period of time with not just performing but all the planning... and interviews!  No wonder he found time to escape one last time to his batcave (tcc). While we know that was also purposeful, sometimes change is as good as a rest.

Hopefully he now gets some much needed downtime at home before FaOI, where at least it's mostly performing instead of dealing with planning.

  15. Looks like yuzu was without his skates and then put them on in the other photo, maybe for one last skate with his coach at the club. Brian looks so proud in the shot with just him and Yuzu... how could he not??? I'm sure somewhere inside they're all thinking about that skinny and determined 17 year old who arrived so many years ago who just blossomed and became this magnificent butterfly. I know I would be, if I was in their shoes... skates.  All the trials, tribulations, triumphs... what a journey they undertook.

TCC has a long and gloried history, and Yuzu's part is a magnificent chapter, forever captured on the wall. He will always be welcomed in that old club.

P.s. what did Brian say in his Instagram? I'm not on Instagram.

I imagine they got sentimental... although he's been gone for 3 pandemic forced years and life has continued, this packing up his place and visiting once more is probably a bit emotional for Yuzu. He feels a lot. Yes, he's pro and looking forward and has already achieved so much in just months, but there was still unfinished business in Toronto. Now that last door is really closing... I'm sentimental when returning somewhere that meant a lot so I'm sure he's got a bit of that.

  16. Hope yuzu has a nice trip and goes down memory lane at his training base. Tcc holds a lot of memories and it was here that he worked to become THE Yuzuru Hanyu.

    He's come full circle now.

Those kids probably had a fabulous day, knowing he was part of the history of TCC... but never imagining he'd not only show up, but actively participate!!

  17. When you name yourself a "god" of anything, it kind of says everything you need to know about that person.

Other people can attach names to you ( goat or god or whatever) for something you've done or achieved and it's fine, but when you do it yourself, before having achieved anything? It's a bit much.

  18. Awww, I was wondering if this break between tours (and reduction of covid) might finally mean he'd go get poor Old man Pooh, left home in Toronto all alone.

He did say (iirc) he was eventually going to go to Toronto to properly thank his coaches there, and get Pooh....And, he and his mom had to quickly leave when the pandemic started so you know they left stuff behind where they were living.... so he's probably doing all of that, and maybe working with David or Jeff or something too.

What a nice surprise for all the skaters and I'm sure Brian and Tracy too.

It mak3s me happy that this little bomb was dropped.... and nope, our weather is not great right now. Two weeks ago it was 25C, now it's like...8C.

  19. I'm a happy camper. The group number Yuzu starts on his knees, in the all black... win for me. Always wanted him in plain, unruffled black... it's a thank you to SOI from me just for that... and I've always loved that music. OK. That's all. :clapping-smiley:

P.s. SOI used to be fabulous. I watched back in the early 90s, the glory years of skating popularity and ice shows. It was the gold star of ice shows.  Group numbers like the Rolling Stones and Shootout at the OK Corral were brilliant and they rehearsed for weeks in Lake Placid. I haven't seen collaborations between skaters in shows like that for years. Scott Hamilton, Kurt, Kristi, G/G, Paul Wylie... everyone shared equal billing and it was such a great show. It went downhill in the late 90s after new skaters joined the cast... but the early 90s were amazing. It's so different now, although there have been some good group numbers over the years, like Trusty and True, the year before Yuzu returned to it. Just so you know.

  20. I was happy that they rewarded "Yuzu's type of skating" meaning skating that was balanced as opposed to only jumps.  They didn't give all the PCS marks to Ilia just because he has all the quads.  I didnt mean the others skated like Yuzu. Obviously no one skates like Yuzu. He blended technical with PCS better than anyone.

i meant that during the last Olympic cycle we saw certain skaters get a boost to their PCS because of their quads, so people thought this was the future: you have hard quads and you get good PCS. That didn't happen here.  Instead, the other skaters who are well balanced and skate well in all areas, quads and PCS, got the marks. And Jason, without a quad, got rewarded here too... and we know Yuzu loves his skating. It wasn't all about the jumps. Shoma does have strong skating skills, as does Junhwan... ilia does not, so he dropped placement.  For this year, the judges got it right... for the future, who knows.

I think the pre rotation issue really has to be addressed Too... and I would love for technical things measurable by tech, like height and distance on jumps, to be incorporated into the scoring.

Was the judging perfect? No. But it was better than in other years and is leaning in a better direction than many feared. Obviously we will see if this shifts again.
